Augmented reality has really picked up momentum in 2009. Nonetheless, we’re still a long way from the Minority Report-style sci-fi dream that people imagine when they hear the term “augmented reality”. The researchers agree that this field is just getting warmed up and augmented reality will one day bring us a truly connected world.
Augmented reality still has some challenges to overcome. For example, GPS is only accurate to within 9 meters and doesn't work as well indoors, although improved image recognition technology may be able to help.
People may not want to rely on their cell phones, which have small screens on which to superimpose information. For that reason, augmented-reality capable contact lenses and glasses will provide users with more convenient, expansive views of the world around them. Screen real estate will no longer be an issue. In the near future, you may be able to play a real-time strategy game on your computer, or you can invite a friend over, put on your AR glasses, and play on the tabletop in front of you.
Augmented reality is certainly a major step toward the virtual world intersecting with the physical, enhancing our perception, and providing clues about underlying data that we would not normally understand.
Thank you for your attention. I hope you found my presentation interesting.
Questions
- Do you think that augmented reality can improve our lives and how?
- What possible downsides of augmented reality can you think of?
At present, I do not see any defects in the AR. This is a very practical and a good idea. I do not think it is dangerous in ecological aspect. Through this technology, you can build devices that will replace our phones, maps, gpses into something new. Technology goes in the right direction, is to make life easier for people, AR certainly offers great possibilities, which should be utilized ASAP. Let us imagine phone calls when we can see each other or help of some support technician showing us how to repair something.
ReplyDeleteWhat possible downsides of augmented reality can you think of?
ReplyDeleteSome people believe that AR functions are too complex for a commercial application. They believe that AR is limited by hardware. I do not agree with this opinions. I think companies adopt AR and find ways to use it. Also hardware limitations disappear in the nearest future. So I think AR is promising technology. But I am realist, there will be always someone who discover the 'dark side' of AR :) using it for example for publish personal data or invade the privacy of an organizations.
What possible downsides of augmented reality can you think of?
ReplyDelete1) The think that comes in my mind is problems with privacy. With AR enabled on your portable devices you will be able to identify people and object, and get massive information about them at any time and everywhere.
2) This one might be a bit abstract for today, but who know what will be in the future. Have you watched the movie "Surrogates"? It might not be exactly AR, however the idea is that you plug in yourself to a computer, and control (using your brain) a human like robot (surrogate). You can feel and see exactly what your surrogates does, however you are kind of immortal ;).
Downside is a threat that it’s going to be used to simplify our lives in such a manner, that we wouldn’t need to think any more. I love the idea of using a personal – portable projector instead of glasses. Possibilities are just a matter of imagination.
ReplyDelete*Do you think that augmented reality can improve our lives and how?
ReplyDeleteI think that I don't have to use AR but other peoples maybe to sight many advanatages and need to use AR in their life.
*What possible downsides of augmented reality can you think of?
I have no idea ... ;)
I think AUGMENTED REALITY is a overrated subject. We are not yet ready to deliver enough processor power to our cellphones f.e to make use of this. I heard about AR 10 years ago, I saw some applications. But still there is no example of company that is successfull(like a BIIIG SUCCESS) because of AR. This looks for me more like a toy rather than serious subject, still.
